Rugby Notes

Oh dear. At a rain-swept Eugene Cross Park, Ebbw Vale and Glamorgan Wanderers fought out a draw in the mud. The hard work was done, a hard-fought victory had just about been earned; and then a couple of errors gave
a) Glamorgan Wanderers the ball in kicking range, and
b) Glamorgan Wanderers a penalty. So, 13-13 it ended.

The difference was the Wanderers' ability to execute plays. Their kicking out of hand was far superior and they made less mistakes. And they had an outside half. Ebbw could have and should have snatched it, but it wouldn't have been a fair result.

Ebbw Vale: S Hunt, J Lewis, K Owen, G Roberts, A Bevan, B Shelbourne, R Lewis, A Lott, M Williams, M Jones, W Jones (M Griffin 64), W Thomas (captain), R Dicks, J McPhail, J Thomas (J Bowd 72).

Scorers: The sole try came late on from scrum half Rob Lewis. A conversion and two penalties for Bryan Shelbourne.

My man of the match: Will Thomas for a great 80 minute effort in the mud and rain.

Match reports appear in the Western Mail, and the South Wales Andrex.

Ebbw are now in 5th place in the Principality Welsh Premiership, but with two games to go could haul themselves up to third. The table is here.
